Today I shared a photo in my Instagram and Facebook stories with the text ‘Brussels sprouts crack’ and my goodness, I had so many messages asking me to share more about the Brussels sprouts ‘crack’, so I sat down immediately to write this post.
To be honest, I only called this Brussels sprouts recipe ‘crack’ because whenever I roast Brussels sprouts, I go crazy eating them as soon as they come out of the oven because the leaves that fall off are charred and crispy so they ‘crack’ in my mouth – I feel like I am eating crispy bacon.
I also call it ‘crack’ because I always see many Christmas crack recipes in December and the balsamic vinegar that I drizzle on the Brussels sprouts make it sweet, which makes me think of candy.
One more point: I used air fryer and roasted in the title because this recipe is easily made in the oven or air fryer, which I suspect many of you received this past Christmas.
Ingredients:
1 lb. Brussels sprouts
Avocado oil spray
Salt
Ground pepper
Balsamic vinegar or syrup.
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (400 if a convection oven). If using an air fryer, set to 390 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Remove and discard any discolored leaves that fall off. Quarter, or half if already quite small, the Brussels Sprouts and place in a large bowl.
3. Spray lightly with avocado oil, season with salt and pepper, toss and repeat.
4. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, stir and roast another 15 minutes. If using an air fryer for 15 minutes total.
5. Once slightly cooled, drizzle with a high-quality balsamic vinegar or syrup (you can find balsamic syrups in the store but avoid those with added sugar). I recommend the traditional balsamic vinegar from Capizzano Olive Oils & Vinegars. Yes, they ship.
