Honestly, who doesn’t begin to salivate when they smell banana bread? It is one of those scents that gives off homey vibes and exudes warmth. Since I am an avid fan but do not make it frequently, I decided to find another way to enjoy banana bread without the baking hence, the banana bread protein smoothie bowl.
Do you enjoy nuts in your banana bread?
If so, this is the recipe for you however, if you have an allergy of prefer to make it without nuts, just omit them. I only used them as a topping, but you could easily toss them into the blender.
Other banana bread ingredients…
I added some strawberries on top of this banana bread protein smoothie bowl however, other popular ingredients include peanut butter, almond extract or almonds themselves, other nuts, honey or maple syrup. 1 scoop of protein of choice (aim for 20-25g of protein; I used John’s Killer Protein)
4-5 oz vanilla Greek yogurt (I use Skyr vanilla)
1 large frozen banana or fresh banana (Add some ice if you use a fresh banana)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ cup (~4oz) unsweetened almond milk
1 teaspoon chia seeds
1 teaspoon flaxseed meal
Chopped nuts, optional
Fresh Strawberries, optional
Directions:
1. Place protein through almond milk into a blender and blend until smooth. If you find the smoothie to be too think, add a touch more milk and blend.
2. Top with chia seeds, flaxseed meal, nuts, more banana and strawberries.
