Wow, we had a whirl wind weekend and I am finally sitting down to tell you all about it. My son had a two-day swim meet that required an early start both days. However, we decided to head to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island on Saturday afternoon.
Included in the admission price is a sample of all the clam chowders that the competitors had prepared. There was also other food options available besides chowder.
We first sampled the super yummy, and good for you, Annie’s Organics salad.
After getting a good base of lettuce in our bellies, we moved onto the serious business of chowda tasting.
My son was the self-appointed judge for the family, and after trying all the chowders, he whittled his choices down to two: the offering from The Mooring, one of our favorite restaurants in Newport, and the Portuguese Seafood Chowder made by the Bristol-Plymouth Technical High School ‘Silver Platter Cafe’.
Both of the favorite’s were red chowder, a new category at the festival this year.
To wrap up our tasty trip around the park, we indulged in some Tres Leches Cake that was served at the Hood food truck.
This cake was fantastic (my daughter may have had a second serving), and don’t worry, I will be sharing the recipe in my next post!
A gorgeous location, and a lovely day with my family.
Disclosure: Hood provided us the tickets for the Great Chowder Cook-off.
