A few weeks ago, our cousins came for a 24-hour visit and we packed in the activity. We began the time with some splashes in the pool and some old-fashioned playtime. The next morning we headed for Mystic, Connecticut.
Lucky for us, the Mystic Seaport was holding some Civil War encampments which offered some additional learning opportunities. Naturally, I still found a way to embarrass myself, even at an 18th century Village: I asked the general store shopkeeper what the most expensive item is in the store. He replied ‘hearing aid’ while pointing to his ear. So, I stepped forward and repeated the question with him repeating the answer. Therefore, I stepped very close and repeated the question loudly to which he stared at me and said ‘I told you. The hearing aid.’ Everyone had a good laugh.
Afterwards, like any good tourist and hostess, we dined at Mystic Pizza. But we did not just have pizza, we ordered salad and fried pickles – yes, fried pickles and guess what? I am going to try to recreate them but in baked form – stay tuned!
We then headed to Bank Street Books, and headed home full of full bellies, and headed back into the pool and kicked back.

I love mystic!! One of my favorite places in Connecticut. Next time you go, check out Abbott’s Lobster in Noank. It’s a really neat place.. a little touristy but very fun. GREAT lobster rolls and fresh strawberry shortcake for $3! 🙂
