Nutrition and exercise go hand in hand or shall I say, they should. However, most people sort of cringe or moan when you say the word ‘exercise’ or ‘workout’ but it really doesn’t have to be that painful.
Besides hitting the gym and lifting weights, we make time for family fitness. Not only does our family fitness time take care of our bodies’ need for physical exercise, but we use this time to talk and bond. Plus, we don’t really think of it as difficult because we are simply spending time outside with each other.
Now that spring has sprung, we have been going for more bikes rides, walking up and down the neighborhood, hiking in the nearby ‘forest’ and shooting hoops outside.
Another family task, which you may not consider fitness, but it does get us outside and we get healthy food from it; tending to our garden. It is too early in the season to have any yield from it, but we find the planting and tending to be healthy for our mind, body and relationships.
After being outside and working up an appetite, we often enjoy making smoothies together. Some of our gluten-free favorites include:
Peaches and Vanilla Cream Smoothie (a no banana recipe for our daughter)
Pineapple, Banana & Yogurt Smoothie
What are the other ways you stay healthy and active?
