What Is Infused Oil Used For?
Today the AFC & NFC playoffs are on, so my husband will be glued to the couch while I am making some nibbles and keeping myself busy elsewhere.
I decided to get started with recipes by making a jalapeno & garlic infused oil, knowing that I can drizzle it onto many dishes, use as a marinade, in a sauce, in a sauté, etc. An infused oil is a simple technique where you transfer the flavors of an herb/food into an oil. There are endless combination and possibilities!
I am not sharing my other recipes I have come up with today, as I plan on sharing them in other posts, so feel free to start making your oil and planning what you want to do with it.
I used grapeseed oil because it has a high smoke point and has a light flavor which makes it perfect for just about anything.
How Do I Make Infused Oil?
Follow this recipe below, and then begin to imagine all the other flavor combinations you will want to make.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup grapeseed oil
5 garlic cloves, thickly sliced
1 large jalapeno, thickly sliced
coarse salt, optional
Directions:
1. Heat the oil in a saucepan, over medium-high heat. Lower the heat to medium and add in the jalapeno, garlic and salt.
2. Stir slowly and constantly, and after a minute or so, lower the heat to low so that you do not burn the garlic. Continue slowly stirring until the garlic begins to brown, remove from heat and allow to sit for 10 minutes or so.
3. Remove the jalapeno and garlic, and once cooled, store in an airtight container in the fridge.
