Did you know that March is National Nutrition Month and the key theme for 2013 is “Eat Right, Your Way, Every Day.”?
Well it is, and so I started thinking about what versatile foods one can add to their diet and would work for a variety of diets/food allergies. One food that came time mind is mushrooms.
Mushrooms are a versatile food that can be incorporated in one’s meal plan from breakfast to dinner and work for those who need to eat dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, low sugar and/or gluten-free.
Due to mushrooms’ hearty texture they are the perfect ingredient to swap in for a portion of meat in your favorite recipes: I have used them in burgers instead of beef or simply as a burger topping and finely diced mushrooms easily blend into a variety of sauces and most of the time, no one in this house even notices.
Now that I have shared this information with you, I wanted to give you some recipes to inspire you to toss some mushrooms into your meals:
