While working the other night, I spotted an eye-catching note on the community board and the words that caught my attention were ‘Soup’s On’.
Upon reading the flyer, I found that there was going to be healthy soup cook-off at the local business ‘Advanced Precision Training’. I called them and they told me that local restaurants and some of their employees were having a friendly soup competition – for free.
I figured it would be fun to eat some soup and meet some healthy soup minded folk so I went for an hour. I found it so much fun to walk into the event and have an immediate camaraderie as we were all excited to taste each soup and get to choose our favorite’s. There were some raffles and a lot of good conversation.
Some of my favorite soups were the African Sweet Potato, Squash-Leek, Lentil & Brown Rice and my absolute favorite (and winner) was the Curried Cauliflower Soup which I will be making this week and sharing the recipe.
It was also a lot of fun to also see the evolution of the crock-pot. I happen to mention to two people standing next to me that I could remember some of the pots from childhood. That lead into a number of us discussing and dating the pots. I saw the crock-pot that my grandmother had (a small brown number), the crock-pot my mother had (larger with pink flowers on it ) to the modern day big-as-a-truck stainless number.
Do you own a crock-pot and do you use it?

Love it! It is starting to get cool here and I’m looking forward to soups! It seems like crock-pots are the new “in” kitchen gadget. I wonder if my mother has the old one in her garage and whether it still works? Fun post to get us in the mood for soup.
Thank you,
